The issue of building sociality with architecture will be reviewed regarding the developments in Europe and North America by focusing on Turkey's transformation between 18th and 21st centuries. The course is not in the nature of a conventional history of Turkish architecture. The stylistic discussions will be completely excluded, and the argument that architecture cannot be discussed autonomous from other cultural practices will be taken as the basis.

The course stems from the assumption that architects should not only be able to use the various digital tools available, but also need have the skills to create new critical and experimental design tools that answer specific design questions. Within the scope of the course, there will be studies on the proposal and implementation of design-question-oriented customized digital workflows. These customized workflows will attempt to understand and answer a design problem piecemeal, in order to approach architecture and urban research in a bottom-up method.

This course focuses on housing in the context of modernity. This subject will be evaluated from two different routes: housing as a physical space and dwelling as a culture. Premises for modern housing production and economy, individual agents in the housing regime, micro-politics in various geographies and the housing idea generated by the sociality and professionals are among the topics of discussion. Titles such as categorization, statistics, typology, standard, etc will be introduced and analyzed in-depth through their ability to construct the normative mindset about housing and dwelling. Some recent comparative work by housing scholars will be used to create a medium for a fruitful discussion.

The course begins by examining the history of conservation and restoration theory. In the continuation of this, the theoretical approaches of the architectural dimension of the conservation and restoration issue will be examined. The principles of evaluating the existing building stock, whether registered or not, will be discussed. Our experience of almost a century in Turkey, starting from the 1950s and extending to the present, will be evaluated. The reflections of the theoretical approach of conservation and restoration in practice will be presented through examples.
