DOUBLE MAJOR PROGRAM

It is an opportunity for students who are enrolled in an associate degree/undergraduate program (first major) to take all the courses specified by another department/program at their university and receive an associate degree/bachelor's degree in another field by successfully completing both programs within the same period.

According to the relevant regulation amendment by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), double major programs can be carried out

between associate degree diploma programs and other associate degree programs;

between a bachelor's degree program and another bachelor's degree program; or

between a bachelor's degree program and an associate's degree program

that are provided at the same higher education institution, upon the recommendation of the related departments and faculty/vocational school boards and the approval of the senate.

Students can apply for a second major diploma program in line with the following rules:

At the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of the 5th semester at the latest for students of 4-year major undergraduate diploma programs;

At the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of the 7th semester at the latest for students of 5-year major undergraduate diploma programs;

At the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of the 9th semester at the latest for students of 6-year major undergraduate diploma programs;

At the beginning of the 2nd semester at the earliest, and at the beginning of the 3rd semester at the latest for students of 2-year major associate degree diploma programs.

Students who have a minimum grade point average of 2.72 out of 4.00 in their major diploma program and rank in the top twenty percent of their major diploma program class at the time of application can apply for a second major diploma program.

To be eligible for applying for a double major diploma program, students must have successfully completed all the courses in their major diploma program up until the semester of application.

Students must have a grade point average of at least 2.72 out of 4.00 to graduate from a double major program. Students are given a one-time permission, throughout the entire double major program, to have a minimum grade point average of 2.50 out of 4.00. Students whose grade point average drops below 2.50 out of 4.00 for a second time will be deregistered from the second major diploma program.

Students studying a second major undergraduate program can be awarded the second degree only when they graduate from the first major diploma program.

For the students studying a double major second diploma program, the courses taken in the major program and considered equivalent are shown in the transcript of records.

The study period for students who are entitled to graduate from a major diploma program but could not finish the second major diploma program can be extended for a maximum of two semesters upon the decision of the board of directors of the faculty where they study the second major.

Students who do not take courses from their double major program for two consecutive semesters will be deregistered from the second major diploma program.

For students who are deregistered from their double major program, the future of their courses taken within the scope of the second major program are determined by the senate.

In addition to the ones stated in this Regulation regarding double major programs, the senate may implement new conditions, and the stipulated minimum final grades may be increased.

Doing two double majors at the same time is not possible. However, doing one double major and one minor program is possible.
