TURGED ( Turkish Asscociation of the Blind) Football Team, for which Istinye University is sponsoring, performed a visit to the Topkapı Campus of Istinye University on Monday, October 22 nd 2018 and came together with Prof. Melih BULU, the Rector of Istinye University, Prof. Çetin Kaya KOÇ, the Dean of the Engineering Faculty, Assist. Prof. Nilüfer KÖYLÜOĞLU, the Co-ordinator of the Artificial Vision Project, and the academicians of Istinye University. TURGED Football Team feeling the proud of being the first team from Turkey to partipate in the 11 th Blind Football Masters Tournament by IBSA (International Blind Sports Association) held in the Hamburg city of Germany, won the Runner-Up Cup with the excellent performance they revealed throughout the tournament. The TURGED Football Team players shared their excitement with Istinye University academicians after presenting the cup they won to Istinye University. Having stated that Istinye University has been very proud of TURGED Football Team’s success, Prof. Melih BULU also stressed that the success of the visually handicapped is very crucial for the rest of the society in order to gain conscious awareness to the all handicapped people. In his ongoing statement, he pointed out that the university’s without-barrier environment has been approved and registered as ‘The University Without Barrier’ title by YÖK (Council of Higher Education). A library has been established and named after the university’s visually handicapped student called Ezgi. There, Ezgi’s friends gather up and read the course books to her. Prof. Melih BULU also highlighted the disability support of Istinye University by saying that the professors from the School of Medicine and Engineering have been studying on building bionic eye to help the visually handicapped people.
