Distance Education

Distance education is defined as a means of providing access to learning when the student is distant from the education source in terms of time and space, as well as a system of education in its own right. Distance learning can be described as an ideal method for providing equal quality education to meet the educational needs of students who are unable to physically attend a class. This method of education is adopted by a large number of universities and institutes worldwide. New technologies made distance learning an increasingly more popular option for both institutions and students.

Distance education is an educational space created via communication technologies, and offers planned learning to students who are not physically in classrooms. Instead of participating in classes in person, teachers and students communicate at convenient times, and select and exchange printed or electronic materials using an appropriate technology.

Online education can provide a substantial and interactive learning experience. Virtual classes use the internet to create a reciprocal multimedia experience with video conferences, video lessons, and other stimulating learning possibilities.

Reading learning and teaching take place at the same time, this is called synchronous education. On the other hand, when the teacher and the student participate when it is convenient for them, this is called asynchronous education.

The term “hybrid education” is commonly used to describe distance education programs. In fact, this term is a blend of both “synchronous” and “asynchronous” education, meaning it involves both distance learning and face-to-face meetings. This is achieved by assigning specific times to meetings when the teacher is available via multiple channels including e-mail, instant messaging, phone calls, or video calls.

From Fall 2017-2018 onwards, the History of the Turkish Republic I-II, General English and Turkish Language I-II are offered as distance education courses. These courses are uploaded to the system by the Student Registration Office, and the procedure is as follows. Distance Education is also used for document sharing in English and other courses.

Supervised exams are conducted in physical classrooms at the campus. You have to take the exams at specified hours on specified dates, in specified rooms. Exam schedule is posted by the Student Registration Office one week prior to the exams.

Contents of the courses offered in Spring 2019-2020 and the contributions of different components to the overall grade are as follows.
