2018-2019 Academic Year Fall Term ISTEP (Istinye English Proficiency Exam)

Information about the exam:

The English Proficiency Exam will be taken by students who score 75 or higher from the English Placement Exam applied the day before. Students below 75 points cannot enter this test. It consists of Listening, Reading and Writing parts.

Listening consists of 2 parts.

  • In the first part, the students see the questions first, then answer the concurrent questions according to the academic text they listen to.  

  • In the second part, students listen to an academic text and take notes, then see and answer the questions.Total time is 1 hour.  

 

Reading consists of 2 parts.

  • In the first part, an academic reading and questions are given. It is expected that questions will be promptly answered by glancing the text. The time given is 30 minutes.

  • In the second part, another academic reading text and its questions are distributed. It is expected that the questions will be answered by carefully scanning the part. The time given is 30 minutes.

Total time is 1 hour.

Writing consists of one chapter.

  • 3 different topics are given. Students are expected to write an essay of 250-300 words by selecting one of the given topics.

Total time is 40 minutes.

Evaluation: Each section is evaluated over 100 points. It affects the average at the following rates: Listening 30%, Reading 30%, Writing 40%. Passing grade is 60.

Exam Results and Exemption:

The students who score 60 or higher are considered to have proficient level of English to study at their departments so they are exempted from the English Preparatory Program.

Exam results will be announced on the 9th October on https://foreignlanguages.istinye.edu.tr/.

CRITICAL NOTES:

  • Total test time is 2 hours and 40 minutes.
  • The students are required to bring an identity card with photo (photo identity card, driving licence, passport, student id card) for the id check.
  • The students must keep their pencils and erasers available.  
  • The students will have their seats according to numbered seating plan.
