Dr. Gökçe, İrlanda Ulusal Üniversitesi, TU-Dresden (Almanya) ve Alberta Üniversitesi (Kanada) bünyesinde sürdürdüğü akademik kariyerinin yanında, Dünyanın önde gelen yarı iletken üreticilerinden AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) firmasının Almanya fabrikalarında görev almıştır. Ayrıca İrlanda'da IRC ve Avrupa Birliği FP7 programı tarafından desteklenen yaklaşık 10 Milyon Euro bütçeli üç enerji verimliliği projesinde görev almıştır. TU Dresden ve Alberta Üniversitesinde AB ve NRC destekli yaklaşık 6 Milyon Dolar bütçeli dört enerji verimliliği projesinde araştırmacı ve yönetici olarak görev almıştır. Halen, kurucusu olduğu Almanya merkezli akademik "spin-off" AR-GE firmasında, Enerji Optimizasyonu, Yenilenebilir Enerji Teknolojileri ve Sıfır Emisyonlu Mobilite alanlarında Avrupa Birliği ve Almanya destekli yaklaşık 6 Milyon Euro bütçeli AR-GE projelerinin yöneticiliğini yapmaktadır. Dr Gökçe’nin 60'dan fazla uluslararası makale ve konferans yayını bulunmaktadır. 50’den fazla Araştırma Raporu yazmış/katkıda bulunmuştur. Uluslararası konferans, zirve ve çalıştaylarda 50'nin üzerinde sunum ve konuşma yapmıştır. World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET), Energy Efficient Building European Initiative (E2BA) gibi çeşitli uluslararası ve profesyonel kuruluşların üyesidir. ASCE Journals'ın davetli hakemidir. Başlıca araştırma alanları Yapay Zeka Destekli Enerji Optimizasyonu, Yenilenebilir Enerji Teknolojileri, Nesnelerin İnterneti, Veri Madenciliği, Karar Destek Sistemleri, Kablosuz Sensör Ağları, Ağlı Gömülü Sistemler ve Nesne Yönelimli Programlamadır.
