Istinye University Participates in Communication and Media Days Split 2026

Nevzat Alp Büyükyüksel from the Department of New Media and Communication at İstinye University participated in the international scientific conference Communication and Media Days Split 2026, organized by the University of Split in Split, Croatia, on June 5–6, 2026.

Bringing together current research in communication and media studies, the conference provided an international academic platform for scholars to share their research, engage in interdisciplinary discussions, and strengthen academic networks. Nico Carpentier, a prominent scholar in the field of communication and media studies, was among the distinguished participants of the conference, contributing to discussions on media, democracy, discourse, representation, and power relations.

Büyükyüksel’s paper, titled “Algorithmic Visuality as Epistemic Power: AI-Generated Political Imagery and the Synthetic Truth Regime on X,” was accepted for presentation at the conference. The study examines how AI-generated political images circulate within the digital public sphere and how they relate to regimes of truth, representation, and visual credibility.

Focusing particularly on the X platform, the research approaches algorithmic visuality not merely as an aesthetic or technical phenomenon, but also as an issue closely connected to epistemic power and the production of political imagery.

İstinye University’s representation at international academic events contributes to the dissemination of research conducted in the field of communication and media studies on global academic platforms and supports stronger international academic engagement.
