Prof. Semra Şardaş

Prof. Semra Şardaş is the Dean and head of the Toxicology department of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Istinye University, in Istanbul. Her academic degrees of are in the field of Toxicology (PhD in 1982, Associate Professor degree in 1986, Professor degree in 1993 and became European Registered Toxicologist in 2011). Previously she served as head of department of Toxicology and as the vice dean of the Gazi University, Faculty of Pharmacy, head of the Toxicology department of Marmara University, Faculty of Pharmacy. Her international experience and collaborations include working on joint projects and as a visiting scientist at University of London, Department of Pharmacology in Saint Mary’s Hospital. This research was on genetic susceptibility in drug metabolism and was supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK) of Turkey. She carried her studies on genotoxicity /DNA damage detection, Drug Safety assays at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Faculty of Medicine in United Kingdom which was supported by TUBITAK. For many years she has been serving as a scientific consultant in numerous commissions of Ministry of Health, Republic of Turkey, which include the ethical committee, pharmacology and technology commission, clinical evaluation and drug license commission, risk management division, cosmetic safety division and as the chair of the Pharmacovigilance scientific committee of the Ministry of Health, besides her scientific committee membership at the Ministry of Agriculture. She has recently established the Pharmacogenetics and Drug Safety Unit at the Marmara University, Faculty of Pharmacy. Prof. Şardaş has authored many international publications indexed in science citation journals and has a growing number of citations, book chapters and she is the supervisor of many Master and PhD thesis. She is among the founders of Turkish Society of Toxicology and Pharmacovigilance (Drug Safety) Society in Turkey. At present she is the president of the European Registered Toxicology program of Turkey and vice president of the Pharmacovigilance Society of Turkey. Besides her scientific activities, she has organized many local and international toxicology congress in Turkey, executive committee membership, and has editorial duties. She has many International and National awards for her scientific research and academic duties. Nuber of citations are over 1500.
