Artificial Intelligence and Computing Laboratory Established for Kabataş High School Students with Support from Our University

An artificial intelligence and computing laboratory established by our university at Kabataş High School has officially opened. The laboratory will enable students to develop hands-on projects in areas such as artificial intelligence models, data analysis, and image processing. As part of the initiative, 30 state-of-the-art laptops, five high-performance computers for digital game design, and an NVIDIA GPU-powered artificial intelligence server have been made available to students.

“We Aim to Ensure the Continuity of Our Collaboration”

Speaking at the event, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş, stated that they aim to establish a sustainable partnership between Kabataş High School and İstinye University, built on academic development and scientific collaboration.

“First of all, I would like to express how pleased and delighted I am to be here, in such a magnificent historical building and at such a distinguished institution. Kabataş High School and İstinye University have a joint project. The main purpose of this project is to establish a sustainable partnership in the context of academic development and scientific collaboration. Steps have already been taken toward this goal, and projects have been developed accordingly. We have worked devotedly throughout the year on initiatives that bring high school students, university students, and academics together. Our Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Muharrem Usta, also hopes that this collaboration will continue in the long term,” he said.

“This Is More Than Just Building a Laboratory”

Emphasizing that the collaboration goes beyond establishing a laboratory, our Rector stated:

“This was not simply about building an artificial intelligence laboratory sponsored by our university; it was about creating a long-term, sustainable collaboration. It encompasses a broad, multidimensional, and multilayered partnership spanning medicine, engineering, technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence, ethics, social projects, and community engagement. If we can pass this culture on from one generation to the next, we will make a significant contribution to science, academia, society, and social life.”

“Traditions Give Institutions Their Enduring Character”

Referring to the significance of the badge ceremony held at Kabataş High School, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş, highlighted the importance of institutional traditions.

“Such traditions and rituals are very important. They are among the elements that shape institutions and establish their enduring identity. I am very happy to have the opportunity to witness such a ceremony,” he said.

A Powerful Infrastructure for Artificial Intelligence Projects

The NVIDIA GPU-powered artificial intelligence server established as part of the laboratory will enable students to develop projects involving artificial intelligence models, data analysis, image processing, and text-to-speech generation. Equipped with Ubuntu, Docker, and JupyterLab, the system will allow students to access their own working environments directly through a web browser.

Designed to serve approximately 40 students, the server aims to make practical artificial intelligence work accessible without requiring students to own high-performance personal computers.

The laboratory also features 30 state-of-the-art laptops for online classes and educational materials, as well as five high-performance computers equipped with graphics processing units (GPUs), enabling students to work on digital game design and graphics-intensive projects.
