"The Turkish Librarians Association started its activities in Ankara on 19 November 1949 in order to gather Turkish librarians under the roof of a professional organisation, and the Istanbul Branch started its activities on 5 February 1963. The Istanbul Branch has 466 members. The Turkish Librarians Association is a member of IFLA, the umbrella organisation of librarianship associations in the world. It represents the profession of librarianship both nationally and internationally. The Association carries out studies and projects in the fields of sustainability, advocacy, establishing libraries in disadvantaged areas and information literacy education.
