Bahar Biçen Aras Elected to IFLA ISBD Review Group
Bahar Biçen Aras, Head of Information Resources and Library Department at İstinye University, has been elected as a member of the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) Review Group for the term August 2025 – August 2029, according to the results of the 2025 elections held by IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions).
About IFLA and the ISBD Review Group
Founded in 1927 and headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, IFLA is a non-profit international organization dedicated to supporting the development of libraries and information services worldwide. IFLA’s core mission is to advance the interests of libraries, information centers, associations, and all stakeholders in the library profession on a global scale. The organization aims to ensure the provision of high-quality information services, the preservation and accessibility of documentary cultural heritage, and promotes the development of standards, professional education, best practices, and information sharing.
Within this framework, the ISBD Review Group is responsible for maintaining, updating, and promoting the ISBD standard, which is designed to facilitate universal and efficient access to bibliographic resources. The group monitors technological and bibliographic developments to ensure the continuous update of ISBD, develops guides to simplify its use, and collaborates with other IFLA units and international organizations to support bibliographic alignment and standardization worldwide. Comprising up to 12 members serving four-year terms, the group also holds authority to appoint advisors and elect its own chair.

Bahar Biçen Aras’s membership in the ISBD Review Group not only enhances Turkey’s representation in the field of information and records management but also elevates İstinye University’s academic and institutional contributions to the international stage.
