The “Count the Species” event, organized at our university in collaboration between the Young TEMA Club and the Center for Sustainability Research and Applications (IRCOS), contributed to documenting the biological diversity around the campus as part of World Biodiversity Day.

Our university organized the “Count the Species” event on May 22, World Biodiversity Day, to raise awareness of nature and highlight the richness of the local ecosystem. Organized in collaboration with the Istinye University Young TEMA Club and the Center for Sustainability Applications and Research (IRCOS), the event took place at the Kağıthane Creek Green Area on the Vadi Campus with the participation of academic and administrative staff as well as students.

As part of the event, participants conducted observation activities along a walking trail to identify plant species in the campus vicinity. Using the iNaturalist app, participants photographed the plants they encountered to create species records, thereby contributing to the documentation of biological diversity.

Contributing to the Campus Biodiversity Inventory

It is planned to evaluate the data obtained from the fieldwork within the scope of our University’s Green Campus initiatives and to publish the species identified around the campus on the University’s relevant digital platforms. This aims to both foster a deeper understanding of the campus ecosystem and support sustainability efforts with scientific data.
