The IEEE Istinye University Student Branch has been awarded the “Gold” level under the Darrel Chong Student Activity Award, one of IEEE’s most prestigious recognitions for student branches. With this achievement, Istinye University has become the only student branch from Türkiye to receive an award at this level.

The Darrel Chong Student Activity Award is presented by IEEE’s Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) and the IEEE Student Activities Committee (SAC). Student branch activities worldwide are evaluated based on criteria such as scope, organization, sustainability, and impact. The “Gold” level is granted to initiatives demonstrating outstanding performance across these criteria.

The award-winning project was the “TÜBİTAK Research & Innovation Camp – IEEE Istinye,” which aimed to prepare students for TÜBİTAK project processes, encourage interdisciplinary teamwork, and support the development of research and development-oriented projects.

The initiative was carried out under the mentorship of IEEE SAC Türkiye Chair Dr. Aytaç Durmaz and coordinated by IEEE Istinye University Student Branch Chair İrem Karagöz. In a statement by the student branch, it was noted that the award is the result of their ongoing activities, with a commitment to continuing similar initiatives in the future.
