Istinye Members Gathered with the Goal of “Together for the Future in the 10th Year”
With the “Together for the Future in the 10th Year” meeting, Istinye University reflected on its growth from past to present and designed its vision for the future. The meeting brought together the distinguished executives, academics, and students of Istinye University and the MLPCARE Group. During the event, which was attended by the University’s entire team as well as the senior management of the MLP Group, the achievements of the past decade were evaluated, and the University’s vision for the future was discussed.
The meeting began with a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem in memory of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the nation’s martyrs. This was followed by a piano recital by Prof. Dr. Tofigh Allahviranloo, faculty member of the Software Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, who performed traditional compositions. The meeting opened with remarks and insights by Rector Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş, and continued with a presentation by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hatice Gülen on the University’s Third Five-Year Action Plan. Subsequently, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Muharrem Usta evaluated Istinye University’s first decade, sharing its journey from past to present and its vision for the future. Following his address, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Babüroğlu delivered valuable insights on the role of universities and their contribution to society.
“We are strengthening and carrying forward the New Generation University concept”
In his speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş addressed the concept of the “New Generation University.” He stated:
“The New Generation University concept today encompasses creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation, data and technology orientation, practice-based learning, and governance. Istinye University continues its development in line with these principles.”
He noted that the British academic John Henry Newman first emphasized this concept in a university book in the 1860s, more than a century and a half ago, and highlighted several key aspects of the idea. Describing the University’s innovative and future-oriented structure, Prof. Dr. İbiş added:
“Concepts such as continuous change, investment in excellence, professionalism, collaboration, efficiency, and system-based governance—principles that prioritize progress—have only entered Turkey’s agenda in the last quarter-century. We continue to strengthen and carry forward the New Generation University approach in line with today’s realities.”
“We are among the universities producing the most student projects among all foundation universities”
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hatice Gülen shared the University’s Third Five-Year Action Plan. She stated:
“Over the years, our University has shown a significant increase in the number of projects. We are among the universities that produce the most student projects among all foundation universities. All the goals of our second five-year plan have been achieved, and in the third plan, we aim for larger projects and industrial collaboration in doctoral programs. As our Rector mentioned, all these achievements were made possible through the collective effort of all our stakeholders, and I believe we will reach even greater goals together.”
“Istinye University will continue to be a respected, knowledgeable, and value-creating institution”
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Muharrem Usta emphasized:
“We have a five-year target ahead of us, and failure is not an option. This journey has paved the way for building a globally respected university. Istinye University will continue to be a respected, knowledgeable, value-creating institution that contributes to society.”
He further stated:
“Istinye University will become our umbrella brand, elevating MLPCARE and all our hospitals even further. In the future, our graduates will proudly tell their children about the success story of this university.”
The “Together for the Future in the 10th Year” meeting shed light on the University’s decade-long achievements while strengthening its future goals and strategies. Shaped by the shared vision and contributions of Istinye University and MLPCARE Group participants, this remarkable gathering once again underscored the University’s commitment to being an innovative, pioneering, and internationally recognized institution of education and research.
