The “Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç Neuroscience Encouragement Award,” organized by the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy and the Turkish Brain Foundation, has found its recipient. At the ceremony held at our University’s Vadi Main Campus Congress Center, Prof. Dr. Koray Özduman, a faculty member of the Department of Neurosurgery at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine, was awarded first place among six finalists.

The award ceremony, organized by the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy and the Turkish Brain Foundation, took place at our University’s Vadi Main Campus Congress Center. Attendees included Prof. Dr. Garry Jacobs, President of the World Academy of Art and Science, Prof. Dr. Stefan Brunnhuber, Senator of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as expert physicians, academics, and students. Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç presented the award to Prof. Dr. Koray Özduman, who was selected as the first-place winner among six finalists.

“One of the Fields Representing Our Country’s Science at the Highest Level”

Highlighting that Turkish neurosurgery has traditionally represented Turkey at the highest scientific level on the global stage, our Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç stated, “This meeting aims to prepare Turkish neurosurgery for the future and plans to provide scholarships. Traditionally, Turkish neurosurgery has been one of the fields that represent our country’s science at the highest level worldwide. We aim to pass on the responsibility inherited from previous generations to the next. Through this scholarship program, we intend to share our experiences as much as possible with young scientists we believe will represent Turkish neurosurgery at the highest level internationally over the next ten years, while also supporting them with scholarships to develop their potential in various areas.”

“Our Goal is to Pass the Individual Flag to New Generations”

Dean Prof. Dr. Kılıç added, “In this context, the Turkish Brain Foundation worked in collaboration with the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy. We planned the selection process to be conducted by a jury appointed by the Academy. From a total of 12 applications, six finalists were chosen. These six finalists are shown in the table behind me. Shortly, the jury will determine the first-place winner from among them. We will also hear from the finalists how they achieved this success and their advice to colleagues and future generations. Therefore, our goal is to ensure that the high scientific level achieved by Turkish neurosurgery today is sustained in the future by passing the ‘flag’ to the next generation.”

“Science Migrates From Where It Is Not Appreciated”

Prof. Dr. Uygur Er, President of the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy, emphasized that the Academy’s primary mission is to support and develop work in the field of neurosurgery: “As you know, ‘Science migrates from where it is not appreciated.’ This statement was made a thousand years ago by the great Turkish physician Ibn Sina. Therefore, we support all initiatives that encourage science and scientific production. Our main duty at the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy is to support and develop work in neurosurgery. At the same time, our support for other scientific initiatives is complete. The award given here concretely represents the field of neurosurgery and aims to encourage scientific production. We are very proud to motivate young colleagues working in this field.”

“I See This Award as a Major Motivation”

Prof. Dr. Koray Özduman, a faculty member of the Department of Neurosurgery at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine and the recipient of the first-place award, stated: “Receiving this award from the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy and from Türker Kılıç himself is truly an honor for me. This award encourages all of us to conduct more research, be more curious, and engage more deeply in science. At the same time, it serves as a strong motivation to work even harder. Therefore, I view this award as a major source of motivation.”
