The United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30 took place in Brazil from November 10 to 21. As part of the summit, the Parliamentarians' Global Guide to Climate Change and Climate Solutions was published for parliamentarians around the world. While many institutions around the world supported the Youth Foreword section of the guide, the only institution from Turkey to support this section was our University's Student Leadership Group.
COP30 Held in Brazil
COP30 (30th Conference of the Parties) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the highest-level global climate platform bringing together state and government representatives, parliamentarians, scientists, youth organizations, and civil society organizations. This year's summit addressed critical topics such as emission reduction targets, climate finance, adaptation policies, and loss and damage mechanisms.
The Leading Guide to Global Climate Change
The “Guide to Global Climate Change and Climate Solutions for Parliamentarians,” prepared as part of the Summit, is an international policy document developed in collaboration with the University of Exeter, Arizona State University, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The guide aims to guide lawmakers, decision-makers, and parliamentarians worldwide by bringing together the latest data from global climate science.
Istınye University is the Only Turkish University to Support the Youth Foreword
Our university's Student Leadership Group evaluated the Youth Preamble included in this guide and unanimously decided to support it. This contribution was an important step in strengthening a youth-centered approach to climate change, emphasizing young people's right to have a say in climate action, and highlighting our university's understanding of global responsibility.
This process, which demonstrates that the voice of youth can be heard in global climate policies, also reinforced our university's active stance on sustainability, climate awareness, and social responsibility.
