The 2026–2027 Academic Year commenced at our university with the Lighting of the Torch of Science Ceremony and the Academic Year Opening Ceremony. Emphasizing science, scholarly output, student engagement, and civic contribution, the events honored faculty members and students who have made a significant difference and enriched society.

Our university’s 2026–2027 Academic Year began with the Lighting of the Torch of Science Ceremony. Attended by faculty members, students, administrative staff, alumni, and invited guests, the ceremony featured the lighting of the Torch of Science to symbolize the start of the new academic term. Following the ceremony, attendees proceeded to the Congress Center, led by a marching band, for the Academic Year Opening Ceremony.

The Torch of Science Lit for the New Academic Year

The Lighting of the Torch of Science Ceremony commenced with opening remarks delivered by our Rector, Prof. Erkan İbiş. Symbolizing the illuminating power of science, the university's forward-looking vision, and its dedication to knowledge, the Torch of Science was lit jointly by Rector Prof. Erkan İbiş, Student Council President Emir Erkal Üstünipek, and Alumni Representative Çağla Erturan. Following the lighting of the torch, participants moved to the Congress Center for the opening program.

Academic Year Commences with Opening Lecture on "Production and Instruments of Academic Knowledge"

At the 2026–2027 Academic Year Opening Ceremony, Rector Prof. Erkan İbiş shared insights regarding the university's vision, academic journey, and future objectives. Student Council President Emir Erkal Üstünipek also addressed the audience on behalf of the student body.

The inaugural lecture of the academic year was delivered by Prof. Uğur Tanyeli, who served as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture, Advisor to the Rector, and faculty member at Istinye University between 2020 and 2026. Titled "Production and Instruments of Academic Knowledge," the lecture examined scholarly knowledge generation and the tools that drive it.

Academic and Civic Contributions Recognized

During the "Istinye Difference Makers" Award Ceremony held as part of the event, faculty members who contributed to our university through their academic and administrative achievements were recognized. Highlighted achievements included research projects, scientific studies, patents, and honors supported by organizations and frameworks such as TÜSEB, TÜBİTAK, the European Commission, Horizon Europe, IEEE, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, the Turkish Physical Society, and COST.

Additionally, Social Contribution Awards were presented within the framework of the university's quality assurance and community engagement initiatives. Alongside academic staff, students were recognized for their initiatives across diverse fields, including education, health literacy, disaster awareness, social solidarity, support for disadvantaged groups, and public health.

On the first day of the 2026–2027 Academic Year, our university marked the beginning of a new academic term dedicated to science, research, education, and societal impact.
