Twin Transformation and Sustainable Production Center (T-ERA Center) Inaugurated
The Twin Transformation and Sustainable Production Center (T-ERA Center), which integrates digital, green, and lean transformation in the healthcare sector, was inaugurated at our University in a ceremony with wide participation.
Implemented within the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, the T-ERA Center was officially opened in a ceremony supported by the Istanbul Development Agency. The inauguration was attended by Istanbul Deputy Governor Elif Canan Tuncer, Acting Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the Istanbul Development Agency Gökhan Çoban, our Rector Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş, vice rectors, the general secretary, deans, and numerous representatives from the industry.
The opening program commenced with a speech by the project coordinator of the center and Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Figen Yıldırım. In her address, Prof. Dr. Yıldırım emphasized that the center represents not merely a physical structure but the beginning of a transformation, stating: “Today marks the birth of our center. This process will evolve and grow, moving from its initial stage to maturity. We are witnessing how projects supported by the Istanbul Development Agency develop and strengthen over time. In this regard, we consider this strategic initiative within our faculty to be highly valuable.”
Prof. Dr. Yıldırım further elaborated on the core approach of the T-ERA Center: “Here, we are not only inaugurating a center; we are witnessing a paradigm shift. We place smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable production approaches at the heart of our mission. T-ERA embodies transformation, and we aim to participate actively in this transformative process. The center has been designed as a structure that integrates R&D, education, and practice. In this respect, it is not only a knowledge-generating entity but also a hub that converts knowledge into value.” She also highlighted that the center addresses lean production, digital transformation, and twin transformation simultaneously, aiming to support SMEs’ production processes and strengthen university-industry collaboration.
A New Hub for Transformation in the Healthcare Sector
Following the address of Gökhan Çoban from the Istanbul Development Agency, Rector Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş emphasized the critical role of transformation in today’s world. Prof. Dr. İbiş stated: “Concepts, ideas, and perceptions are rapidly evolving. Transformation is one of the most defining concepts of the new era. Those who adapt to this transformation can achieve success. Enhancing awareness of digital technologies and integrating into this transformative process is of paramount importance in the face of changing conditions and dynamics.”
Highlighting the center’s commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable production, Prof. Dr. İbiş underscored the project’s strength in its multi-stakeholder structure: “The greatest strength of this project lies in its foundation on robust collaboration. Projects developed here will contribute not only to academic output but also to the expansion of the ecosystem of sharing and cooperation.”
The T-ERA Center positions itself as an R&D and training hub aimed at developing solutions focused on digitalization, sustainability, and efficiency for manufacturers and hospitals operating in the healthcare sector. With its model factory, digital twin and simulation laboratories, and data analytics infrastructure, the center offers an innovative environment where Industry 4.0 and 5.0 applications can be tested. It also provides opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience while enabling direct benefits for the industry.
Following the speeches, the T-ERA Center was officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by protocol members.
