Clean Energy Research Center

Clean Energy Research Center – ISU-TEAM

The Clean Energy Research Center (TEAM) at Istinye University is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to developing innovative materials, technologies, and scientific solutions for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. TEAM brings together faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, PhD researchers, and young scientists from complementary scientific backgrounds. By combining fundamental science with application-oriented research, the Center aims to address important challenges in clean energy conversion, storage, environmental sustainability, and advanced functional materials.

The Center is led by Dr. Esmail Doustkhah, faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at Istinye University, and works closely with national and international researchers, universities, and research institutions. TEAM researchers are actively involved in several funded national and international research projects, supporting the development of new materials, technologies, scientific collaborations, and highly qualified researchers in the field of clean and sustainable energy.

What Do We Do at TEAM?

At TEAM, we conduct interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology, catalysis, electrochemistry, and renewable energy. Our research activities focus on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of advanced materials for areas including nanoarchitecture of materials for photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, photoelectrocatalysis, H2 production/storage, CO2 capture/conversion, energy-related reactions, environmental remediation, and sustainable materials development, as well as waste materials upcycling into advanced materials to use them in energy-related applications.

We combine advanced experimental approaches with material characterization, electrochemical analysis, theoretical understanding, and international collaboration. Through our funded research projects, we also explore the transformation of waste and abundant resources into functional materials and value-added products. Beyond research, TEAM provides an environment in which PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, and collaborators can exchange ideas, develop new research directions, and contribute to high-impact scientific outputs.

Our Vision

Our vision is to establish TEAM as a recognized national and international center of excellence in clean energy and advanced materials research, connecting fundamental scientific discoveries with technologies that contribute to a sustainable and low-carbon future. We aim to create a dynamic research ecosystem where innovative ideas, interdisciplinary collaboration, advanced research infrastructure, and talented researchers come together to address some of the most important energy and environmental challenges of our time.

Our Mission

Our mission is to:

  • Develop innovative materials and technologies for clean energy conversion, production, and sustainable environmental applications.
  • Conduct high-quality interdisciplinary research in catalysis, electrochemistry, photoelectrochemistry, nanomaterials, and functional materials.
  • Lead and participate in competitive national and international funded research projects.
  • Educate and support the next generation of scientists through the training of PhD researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and young researchers.
  • Strengthen collaboration between academia, research institutions, industry, and international partners.
  • Transform scientific knowledge into technologies and solutions with meaningful environmental, societal, and economic impact.

At ISU-TEAM, we strongly believe that advancements in chemistry and materials science are crucial for creating a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy future. By harnessing innovative research and cutting-edge technologies, we aim to develop solutions that not only address current energy challenges but also promote environmental stewardship and resource efficiency. Our commitment to pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge allows us to explore new materials and processes that can reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy storage, and improve the efficiency of renewable energy sources. Together, we can pave the way for a sustainable energy landscape that benefits both society and the planet.
