İstinye University Architecture Doctorate Program has been structured around two fundamental transformations that have shaped the field of architecture over the past decade: the deepening of theoretical frameworks and the radical digital transformation of technical infrastructures. Our program aims to position the architect not merely as a rule-maker, but as an interpretative and intellectual actor operating at the intersection of multiple disciplines.
Today, architecture has achieved an unprecedented level of permeability by redefining its boundaries with engineering, information technologies, and the social sciences. As İstinye University, we place this new and hybrid identity of architecture at the center of our academic vision, seeking to elevate our students’ critical, theoretical, and technological perspectives on the built environment to the highest level.
Epistemic Depth and Technological Infrastructure:
Our doctoral process offers advanced seminars and theoretical courses designed to explore the complex interactions between architecture and diverse fields of knowledge. While developing original research projects, students benefit from the modern facilities provided by our university:
Advanced Production Technologies: Within the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture, students transform theoretical knowledge into physical prototypes through access to CNC laboratories, 3D printing technologies, and comprehensive design studios.
Theoretical and Critical Approach: A broad research spectrum extending from architectural history to theories of technology, and from urban sociology to epistemological inquiries.
Urban Laboratory: Located at our campus in Cendere Valley—one of İstanbul’s rapidly developing urban corridors—the program occupies a strategic position that closely engages with the dynamics of the city and contemporary architectural practice.
Through this program, we aim to educate leading academicians and design theorists who expand the boundaries of architectural knowledge, conduct independent research, and attain scientific authority on international platforms.
