Textile and Fashion Design Master's Degree (With Thesis) | İstinye University

Istinye University Textile and Fashion Design Master's Program with Thesis aims to educate visionary researchers and design leaders who will shape the fashion industry by addressing the artistic, cultural, and technical dimensions of design through a scientific discipline. Our program combines the creative process with academic research methodology, enabling students to develop their own original design philosophies and contribute to the academic literature.

Today, textile and fashion are not only aesthetic production fields but also intersection points of multilayered dynamics such as sustainability, smart materials, and digital transformation. Our program blends the disciplines of weaving, printing, and garment design with theoretical depth, allowing students to synthesize analytical thinking skills with aesthetic competencies.

Artistic Depth and Vision for Academic Research:
Our thesis-based master's process maximizes students’ abilities to conduct independent scientific research and define the phenomenon of design within a theoretical framework. The curriculum is structured around the following core academic pillars:

  • Theoretical Criticism and Fashion Theories: Developing a universal intellectual perspective through the social reflections of fashion history, design philosophy, and contemporary aesthetic discourses.
  • Advanced Design and Material Research: Integration of innovative textile surfaces, sustainable production techniques, and digital design tools into collection development processes.
  • Scientific Methodology and Original Thesis: A comprehensive thesis study conducted under faculty supervision that addresses a key issue in the field of textile and fashion using scientific methodologies and contributes original insights to the academic literature.

Our graduates who meet the criteria set by the Istinye University Graduate Education and Teaching Regulations, successfully complete their credit-bearing courses, and defend their original thesis are awarded the Master’s Degree in Textile and Fashion Design. With this qualification, they may continue their academic careers at the doctoral level or work as senior creative directors and design strategists in the fashion industry.
