Prof Dr Engin Ulukaya graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and became a specialist in clinical biochemistry in 1995. He then received his PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Leeds (England) in 2000. His research areas are anticancer drug development, translation of cell death to oncology, cancer stem cells, and tumor chemosensitivity testing on spheroids. He is the president of the Molecular Cancer Research Association (MOKAD). He is also a council member of the EACR (European Association for Cancer Research) and a full member of the PathoBiology and PAMM groups of the EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer). To date, he has served as a board member in three separate “COST ACTION” projects of the European Union. In 2003, he received the WASPALM Medal and the “Most Promising Laboratory Physician of the Year” award at the WASPALM congress held in South Korea. He has approximately 200 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, 32 national and international awards, 6 patents, and 7062 citations. His H-index is 48 (Google Scholar, November 2025). He served as the founding director of the Institute of Health Sciences at Istinye University, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Vice Rector of Istinye University.
