Dear Digital Game Design Department Students,
We are delighted to welcome you to our department, which will shape the future of one of the 21st century's most dynamic and creative industries: the digital game sector.
Interdisciplinary Education at Global Standards
As the Istinye University Digital Game Design Department, we have a structure similar to the current global game education system, which differentiates us from other programs in Türkiye. The foundation of our educational philosophy is an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses not only artistic creativity but also engineering-based software skills.
In line with this philosophy, we have defined the vast majority of our 1st and 2nd-year courses as Technical courses, followed by art and design courses. Our goal is to provide you with solid foundations that will be the basis for a long-term career in the sector.
Academics with Their Finger on the Pulse of the Industry
In forming our academic staff, we meticulously select professionals who are influential in the sector (experts who own their own game companies or work for major game companies) after extensive research.
University: More Than Just Classes
Dear students, at this point, I would like to make an important reminder about university life. A common notion when transitioning from high school to university is that classes and the process will continue as they did in high school, and that learning will be completed only within class hours.
University is much more than that.
University is not just a place you go to after attending classes; it is a holistic environment for meeting people, developing, and self-discovery. This is the place where you will invest in your own development, deepen your interests, and produce projects.
With this in mind, the Digital Game Design Department offers you unique opportunities:
- Gamelab and Computer Laboratory: We have made these special facilities, which are not available in many other departments, available for our students' use.
- A New Perspective: These laboratories create an opportunity for you to shift your learning habit away from merely being present in class to transforming theoretical knowledge into practice and developing commercial-quality projects by collaborating with your teammates.
Remember, simply listening to what is taught in class is not enough to design a game, write code, and produce a product. These skills are only solidified through extra time spent in our Gamelab, the teams you form, and individual curiosity.
The key to your success lies in making the best use of these physical facilities and sector connections offered to you.
I wish you all a successful, creative, and productive university life.
Sincerely,
Dr. İsmail Ergen Head of the Digital Game Design Department
