The knowledge foundation underlying many science-based applied fields, especially Engineering and Medicine, has been established through the basic sciences. Similarly, many technologies and methods emerging from applied sciences also make it possible to conduct more advanced research in the basic sciences.

İstinye University has a highly qualified academic staff in various basic science disciplines, both in education and in scientific research. This academic potential serves the university’s vision of excellence in education and research through departments such as Chemistry and Mathematics within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, as well as through the Department of Basic Sciences affiliated with the Rectorate.

Our academic staff in the Department of Basic Sciences conducts research-oriented studies in the field of High Energy Particle Physics (YEPAF) and, within the Division of Physics, also runs the PhD Program in Physics. Details of the PhD Program in Physics are available on the Institute page, while a summary introduction can be found in the “ISU PhD Program in Physics at a Glance” document.

Inline with the responsibility of being the largest research group in Türkiye in the field of High Energy Particle Physics, the most important motivation of ISU-YEPAF is contributing to Türkiye's international scientific achievements. It aims to train a new generation of researchers at the intersection of basic sciences, engineering, health sciences, and other applied sciences by transferring its international research experience to local research and product development studies.
