Dr. Yelda Birinci graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Biology. She has done her masters in Medical Biology and Genetic (2007) and PhD degree in Medical Biochemistry from Karadeniz Technical University, Medicine Faculty, Basic Sciences (2014). Dr. Birinci joined Bioenergetics Laboratory in Biochemistry Department of Bologna University as a visiting researcher for her doctorate thesis supervised by Dr. Maria Luisa Genova. The main scope was the analysis of the kinetic properties of the respiratory supercomplex I-III and the role of its redox intermediate, Coenzyme Q10 in mammalian mitochondria and proteoliposome models. After her doctorate, she directly started working as a Postdoc in Molecular Biology, Genetics and Bioengineering Department at Sabanci University. She worked on the development of nano-based drug delivery system and expanded her research horizons with interdisciplinary research by integrating materials sciences innovation with molecular biology. She developed a nano-antioxidant which worked efficiently on preventing and recovering oxidative damage in cells. This invention was registered European Patent Office on 2018, and it has been published with the number of WO2018124994A1 on 2022. She has worked at Koc University as a senior postdoctoral researcher for 2018-2020 in the EMBO project of Dr. Yongsoo Park. The project concerns miRNA exocytosis by large dense core (LDCV) vesicle fusion in neurotransmission. She has been working as an Assistant Professor at Medical Biochemistry Department of Istinye University since 2021.
