The University Student Clubs Cooperation and Support Program (ÜNİDES) for the 2025–2026 Academic Year, 5th Term, conducted by the General Directorate of Youth Services under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has awarded funding to the project of the Nutrition Club for Health Protection at İstinye University.
The project, titled “Strengthening Nutrition Services in Disasters and Emergencies: Training Program for Dietitians,” aims to increase the effectiveness of nutrition services in disasters and emergencies and to develop the competencies of dietitians who will work in this field.
This comprehensive training program will bring together 3rd and 4th-year undergraduate students in Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as dietitians at the master's and doctoral levels, offering theoretical and practical knowledge on topics such as nutrition planning during disaster processes, food safety, nutrition management for special groups, and field applications. Additionally, the organizational structures of institutions such as AFAD and the Red Crescent will be examined; the training will be enriched with real-life case studies and insights from experts with disaster response experience.
The project was prepared and is being carried out by Dietitian Ahmet Serhat Afşar, a graduate student in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at İstinye University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Funda Elmacıoğlu, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at İstinye University.
This important support will contribute to the training of competent, prepared professionals who contribute to public health in the field of disaster and emergency nutrition.
