Prof. Mehmet Levhi Akın

Professor Dr. M. Levhi Akın was born in Adapazarı in 1961. He completed his primary and secondary education in Adapazarı. After graduating from Kuleli Military High School in 1979, he started his Faculty of Medicine education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, and completed at Gülhane Military Faculty of Medicine in 1985. After completing his Post Graduation Military Medical Training in Gülhane Military Medical Academy, he worked as the Chief of the 14th Mechanized Brigade Infirmary in Kars. He started as a General Surgery Specialist Student education at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital, Department of General Surgery and became a General Surgery Specialist in 1993. He worked as a General Surgery Specialist at Cyprus Girne Military Hospital. In 1995, he started to work as Assistant Professor of General Surgery at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital. He completed his internship in St’ Marks Hospital, London / England for a year. He became Associate Professor of General Surgery in 2000 and Professor of General Surgery in 2007. He worked as Chief of Emergency Department, Chief of General Surgery Service, Deputy Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery Service, Head of the Department of Surgical Diseases and Deputy Chief Physician at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital, respectively. He still continues to serve as the Head of the Department of Surgical Medical Sciences and the Chief of Department of General Surgery in Istinye University Faculty of Medicine, and the Liv Hospital Ulus, General Surgery Department, Breast Surgery Unit. He made the editorship of Journal of Intensive Care, Member of Balkan Military Medical Review Advisory Board, Editorial Boards of Turkish Journal of Surgery, Turkish Journal of Colorectal Surgery and National Trauma and Emergency Surgery Journal, Reviews of World Journal of Surgery, Indian Journal of Surgery, Endoscopic-Laparoscopic and Minimal Invasive Surgery Journal, and Advisor to Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology, Gülhane Medical Journal and Gazi Medical Journal. He is active member of Istanbul Medical Chamber, Turkish Surgical Association, Istanbul Surgical Association, Trauma and Emergency Surgery Association, National Endoscopic-Laparoscopic Surgery Association, Turkish Colon and Rectum Surgery Association, St Mark's Association, International Society of Surgery (ISS), European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP ), American Society of Colorectal Surgeons (ASCRS), American Collage Surgeons (ACS) and European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA). He published 45 international and 60 national articles, had 119 international and 101 national congress presentations. He had 835 citations, 8 book chapters, 7 book chapter translations, 1 book translation editorship, 3 scientific awards, 6 international conferences presentations, 17 international conference session chairs, 46 national conference presentations, 53 national conference session chairs, and 15 thesis managers.
