Prof. Mehmet Taşdemir

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Taşdemir graduated from Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Ministry of Health Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital in 2009, followed by a subspecialty in Pediatric Nephrology at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2013. From 2013 to 2015, he worked at the University of Health Sciences Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital, where he contributed to the development of pediatric nephrology services and medical education. In October 2015, he served as an observer at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Department of Nephrology. He then worked at Koç University Hospital between November 2015 and April 2021, playing a leading role in establishing dialysis and transplant-focused pediatric nephrology care. He joined Istinye University Faculty of Medicine in July 2021. Since February 2022, he has been pursuing a PhD in the “Pediatric Kidney Transplantation Research Program” at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. As of September 1, 2023, he has been working at Istinye University Bahçeşehir Liv Hospital. On February 3, 2025, he was promoted to Full Professor of Pediatric Nephrology. He successfully passed the Turkish Society of Pediatric Nephrology (TSPN) Board Exam in May 2019 and the European Society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) Board Exam in November 2020. In July 2021, he was awarded the FESPN (Fellow of ESPN) designation. He was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2019 and to Professor in February 2025. Dr. Taşdemir is a member of IPNA, ESPN, ERA-EDTA, Turkish Society of Nephrology, Turkish Pediatric Association, and TSPN. Since 2023, he has actively participated in the Transplant Working Groups of both TSPN and ESPN. His clinical focus includes kidney transplantation and dialysis, glomerular diseases, childhood hypertension, congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT), and acute and chronic kidney disease. His research interests are primarily centered on pediatric kidney transplantation. He also investigates hypertension and cardiovascular outcomes in children with chronic kidney disease, inflammation, nephrotic syndrome, and anatomical and functional urinary tract disorders. Since 2020, he has been an active researcher in CERTAIN (Cooperative European Paediatric Renal TransplAnt INitiative), one of the leading international registries in pediatric transplantation.
