Tanpınar’s Relationship with Cinema Explored in Bursa

The “Cinema and Conversation” program, organized as part of Bursa’s Tanpınar Year events, took place on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Tayyare Cultural Center. The evening opened at 19:00 with a screening of Charlie Chaplin’s cult classic The Circus.

 

Following the film, our Dean Prof. Nezih Erdoğan took the stage at 20:15 for a talk examining how Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar understood and engaged with cinema. The discussion explored Tanpınar’s perspective through the lens of modernity and the narrative structures of his literary works, highlighting how he situated cinema alongside other art forms in both his essays and fiction.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
