Nevzat Alp Büyükyüksel, Research Assistant in the Department of New Media and Communication at İstinye University’s Faculty of Communication, presented his ongoing research as a guest of MusiColab, a research group affiliated with the Music Advanced Research Centre (MIAM) at Istanbul Technical University (ITU).
The presentation explored how digital platforms shape contemporary music cultures and the circulation of melancholia in the streaming era. Using the Turkish band Jakuzi as a case study, the research examined Spotify playlists, user engagement, and platform dynamics to discuss how music is categorized, interpreted, and experienced within digital environments.
The session concluded with an engaging discussion on platform studies, digital culture, and contemporary music research. Bringing together researchers from different disciplines, the event highlighted the value of interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration in understanding the evolving relationship between music, media, and technology.
