Disasters are not merely unexpected forces of nature; they are extraordinary events that deeply affect every aspect of social life. From sudden earthquakes and landslides to the increasingly visible impacts of climate change, such events bring about a multi-layered process of risk and disaster management that requires responsibility not only from public institutions but from all segments of society.
This book, written by Dr. Mahmut Enes Ağca, examines the HAARP conspiracy theory that spread rapidly across digital media during the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş in 2023. Based on claims of artificially triggered earthquakes, this theory is associated with nearly every major seismic event and contributes to serious information disorder within society. By analyzing who disseminates this theory, for what purposes, and through which communication strategies, the study aims to shed light on methods that can be applied from a science communication perspective to combat misinformation during disaster periods.
Emphasizing that disasters require effective information management not only on the ground but also across digital platforms, this work serves as a guiding resource for public institutions, communication researchers, and professionals working in the field of disaster communication.
