Dear Istinye University, Civil Engineering Department students and student candidates,

Istinye University Civil Engineering Department initiated its academic activities in 2018 with the excitement of being a department that has national and international recognition and prestige in Civil Engineering education and continues its efforts to provide education and research opportunities for its students in a high quality academic ecosystem. The priority of our efforts is to prepare our undergraduate students for a professional life that would involve working in different disciplines of the construction industry. We prepare our students for a real life such that they feel confident in solving Civil Engineering problems effectively and efficiently. This is made possible  by exposing them to real life problems which they tackle by the skills and knowledge they acquire through design courses supported by the necessary theoretical background during the four-year undergraduate education process.

Civil Engineering has always maintained its importance wherever civilization exists. As a profession, civil engineering has developed and changed in parallel with technological developments and social changes and hence the expectations from today's civil engineers have also changed. The undergraduate program run by the Department of Civil Engineering at Istinye University has been shaped with this change in mind.

In an environment where the world population is rapidly increasing, natural resources are decreasing and ecological balances are beginning to deteriorate, civil engineers are now obliged to consider the environment and the economic use of resources (sustainable engineering) in their projects. On the other hand, Civil Engineers should be equipped with skills to implement smart technologies used to improve the efficiency and quality of infrastructure services (smart cities). The “civil engineer” profile demanded today has become a more qualified profile in parallel with the dynamism and competition in the sector. In this context, the “new” civil engineer is an engineer with more international qualifications, high IT and management skills and technically able to keep himself up to date on an international level. As Istinye University Civil Engineering Department, our aim is to educate engineers who will contribute to transforming our country and the world into a more livable place.
