The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics was founded in 2017, under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Nermin Gözükırmızı, within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and accepted its first students in the 2017-2018 academic year. The Department joined the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences in the 2019-2020 academic year. Since 2019, the Head of the Department is Prof. Elif Aylin Ozudogru.
Our program has been accredited by The Associatıon For Evaluation And Accreditation of University Programs in Mathematical, Natural And Social Sciences (FEDEK) until the year 2027.
All faculty members of the Department are active in research and teaching and place great emphasis on student participation in both the classroom and research activities. In the first year of undergraduate education, students form a strong scientific background with compulsory courses such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, and in the following years, via the cources such as biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology of the cell, basic / molecular genetics, human genetics, molecular evolution, bioinformatics. and biostatistics, as well as practical courses and theoretical training and practical experience in various current methods used in molecular biology, they gain a solid foundation in molecular biology. The courses are given by academic staff who are experts in their fields, and are supported by domestic and abroad internships and graduation projects. The department has minor and double major programs with many departments in the faculty and other faculties, and Erasmus agreements with many reputable universities. In addition to undergraduate education, the department has been providing graduate education at the Master Degree since the 2022-2023 academic year. The language of instruction of the department is English.
