Henri Cartier-Bresson said, “Taking a photograph is the ability to bring together the mind, heart and eye in the axis of the lens.” This quote emphasises that photography is not merely a technical pursuit; it is a holistic form of expression that simultaneously engages thought, emotion and perspective.

Students from the Visual Communication Design and Public Relations and Advertising departments at İstinye University's Faculty of Communication first learned to see in the ILT103 Basic Photography course they took this semester. They did not limit themselves to theoretical knowledge of the principles of composition that form the basis of photography, but also gained experience through practical work.

The students produced original photographs under the headings of Portrait, Music, Working People, İstinye University, and Still Life. They observed and documented the direction, intensity, and effect of light in the morning, afternoon, and evening hours. They also questioned the expressive power of photography in the context of design and communication by experimenting with an hour-long advertising photograph.

This exhibition brings together a selection of works from our faculty's first event in this field. The exhibition features over 100 photographs by 50 students. The exhibition can be visited in the foyer of İstinye University's Vadi H Campus between 9 and 29 January 2026.

Our students took pleasure in creating; they approached photography with an investigative, questioning and creative identity. They learned through experience that success comes from wanting it badly and working hard. We have faith in them.
