Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bilge Erdogan, Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Istinye University Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that heart diseases are largely preventable and highlighted the vital importance of healthy lifestyle habits.
During Heart Health Week, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bilge Erdogan shared his evaluations regarding cardiovascular diseases. Stating that a significant proportion of heart diseases can be prevented through appropriate lifestyle choices, Erdogan noted that society should review and improve its daily habits.
PAY ATTENTION TO 5 BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS TO PROTECT YOUR HEART HEALTH
Prof. Dr. Erdogan stated that there are five fundamental factors in protecting heart health: balanced and healthy nutrition, regular physical activity, quitting smoking, stress management, adequate sleep, and regular health check-ups.
Emphasizing that excessive salt, sugar, and processed foods negatively affect vascular health, Erdogan pointed out that a sedentary lifestyle is a significant risk factor for heart diseases. He also stated that smoking is one of the leading causes of vascular blockage and warned that chronic stress and lack of sleep place a serious burden on the heart.

Prof. Dr. Erdogan stressed that complaints such as chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, and sudden fatigue should be taken seriously. He noted that prolonged chest pain and cold sweating, in particular, may be signs of a heart attack.
