International Relations

j

The Department of International Relations examines the characteristics, historical context, and interactions of all actors within the international system through a robust theoretical lens. The structure and functions of institutions, foreign policy decision-making processes, and political and economic relations form the core areas of analysis within our discipline. Understanding the multidimensional nature of international relations—rooted in the dynamics of cooperation and conflict among states and non-state actors—requires a multi-perspectival academic approach. This necessitates an interdisciplinary framework that incorporates fields such as history, economics, political science, law, and philosophy. The Department of International Relations is committed to meeting these academic and intellectual requirements.

The primary goal of the Department of International Relations is to equip students with the key knowledge and scientific methodologies essential for becoming experts in the field. By leveraging the comprehensive education provided, students will develop advanced analytical skills and a nuanced understanding of international developments, enabling them to interpret and engage with global issues through a sophisticated, critical framework.

Program outcomes

Language skills: The Department of International Relations equips students with the requisite English proficiency for academic and professional success. Students with limited English skills are required to attend English Preparatory classes tailored to their proficiency level. Upon completing these preparatory courses, students must succeed  the English Proficiency Exam to proceed with their undergraduate studies.

Professional Knowledge: During the undergraduate study period, the Department provides a rich and diverse curriculum, comprising both compulsory and elective courses, which allows students to specialize in various fields of interest. Additionally, international exchange programs, combined with minor and double major opportunities at Istinye University, enable students to build strong career prospects.

The Department also emphasizes fostering direct connections between students and accomplished professionals from the public and private sectors. Initiatives such as the "Mentor'un CEO Olsun" ("Get a CEO Mentor!") Program encourage students to expand their professional networks across diverse industries, further enriching their academic journey and preparing them for dynamic career opportunities.

Job Opportunities

Graduates of the Department of International Relations are well-positioned to pursue careers in a wide range of fields. They can excel in governmental institutions, particularly within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as in various private sector roles. It is an indisputable fact that international and multinational companies actively seek professionals with expertise in international relations.

Additionally, graduates can achieve positions in the media industry, private sector, financial institutions, and non-governmental organizations. Those with a passion for academia and research may choose to advance their careers as researchers, consultants, or academic staff members, contributing to the development of knowledge and policy in the field. The versatility of their education ensures that graduates are equipped to thrive in diverse professional environments.
