TUBITAK Support for Scientific Project

Istinye University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Department of Software Engineering Faculty Member Dr. Buse Yılmaz's TÜBİTAK 3501 project titled Graph Transformation and Customized Code Generation for Sparse Triangle Matrix Solution was found eligible to be supported.

For sparse linear algebra systems, the Sparse Sub-Triangle Matrix Solution (SUMÇ), the building block for many numerical solution systems, such as direct or iterative methods and the LU, QR, and Cholesky sparse matrix decomposition methods, accounts for a significant portion of the total execution time. Methods of parallelizing SAUMÇ have been extensively studied in the past; however, this remains a formidable problem even in today's highly parallel and specialized architectures that do massive amounts of computation per second. The limited parallelism due to the dependencies between the computations, the irregular scale of the computations and the low granularity of the workloads necessitate an effective load balancing and synchronization mechanism approach. To find solutions to these challenges, the project aims to introduce a new method based on specialized code generation with graph transformation at its center.
