Down Syndrome Awareness Seminar from the Department of Health Management

The Department of Health Management at Istinye University's Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences has organized a seminar to increase awareness about Down syndrome. Students from the Faculty of Medicine and Department of Health Management and Department of Speech and Language Therapy participated in the seminar held at the Vadi Campus.

Speaking on behalf of Türkiye’s Down Syndrome Association, psychologist Seniha Salihoğlu said the association hopes to eradicate public prejudice against Down syndrome, integrate Down individuals into society, and educate Down families. The association organizes training sessions for individuals with Down syndrome over 18 years old to help them achieve career goals, navigate adulthood, and maintain independent lives. Hundreds of Down individuals have entered the workforce after completing these trainings.

Salihoğlu stated that with education, Down individuals can be integrated into society and the workforce. She also provided information about common misconceptions surrounding Down syndrome.
