Student’s Projects Win Accolades

A project by Ferhat Evin, a first-year student in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in Istinye University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, has won third prize in a competition entitled, “The Responsibility of My Future: The Art of Living ". The competition showcased 552 projects and was organized by Istanbul Medipol University in cooperation with the Association of Kindness for Youth .

Evin’s award-winning project is entitled "Isolation, Characterization and Biological Evaluation of Jellyfish Gelatin and Some Plant Seed Mucilages as a Hydrocolloid Substance for Use in Industrial Applications."  It was prepared for competition under the supervision of Associate Professor Elif Aylin Özüdogru, Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and with the support of various universities (ITU, Istanbul University) and industrial organizations (Heksagon Katı Atık Inc., NOBEL Ilaç).

The project won first prize last year in the Patent Competition organized by Istinye University Technology Transfer Office. In addition to its success in competition, the project has been accepted into the accelerator entrepreneurship program as a result of referee evaluation, which judged it to be one of 20 projects with commercialization potential. The project has also been accepted for exhibition at the "15th Project Market from Idea to Reality " event organized by Karadeniz Technical University Technology Transfer Application and Research Center. This selective event received approximately 200 applications from all over Türkiye.
Ferhat Evin developed another project entitled "Touch History” with Burak Kaplan and Hanife Zülal Çelik. This project aims to make Miniatürk, Turkey's showcase and the world's largest miniature park, accessible to visually impaired visitors. Miniatürk was selected as the pilot site for the implementation of the project and the students executed the design with the Miniatürk team. The concept is a curated collection of 3D artifacts enriched with sound, smell and taste effects that enable visually impaired individuals to experience Miniatürk through the senses so that they can examine, understand and recognize the works and structures in the exhibit.

Ferhat Evin is the current chairman of the student Project Development and Biotechnology Club.
We congratulate Ferhat Evin who has represented our university so impressively with the projects he has developed.  We wish him continued success.
